Carmel cheese wax is a food-grade wax which is used to create a protective coating around cheese. It is specially designed to protect cheese from airborne contaminants such as bacteria and mold and also creates a moisture barrier to ensure the cheese doesn’t dry out. This treatment greatly prolongs the cheese’s shelf life.
Applying wax to cheese can be done using one of two main methods: either by dipping the cheese in the wax, or by brushing the wax onto the cheese. Dipping cheese in wax will require more wax and a deeper container in which to submerge the cheese, depending on its size.
